history:
Upon entering the academy, a lot of other children saw him as an average child, nothing special, but something compelled them to be his friend. So, as you can guess, he had a lot of friends. But, as quick as he was to make friends, his life began to become filled with bloodshed and surprises. It was after a week of being in the academy that he met his mother's new boyfriend, Satou Riku. He was twenty-seven, had a decent face, and was an all around nice guy. But he said he was from Hoshigakure no Sato, but then claimed that he wasn't a shinobi. Shiro felt something was off. This man sounded as if he were lying, but what was he to know? He was only a child. It was the next week, that he invited a friend over to his house and bloodshed entered his life. His friend's name was Amano Rei, and a name he shouldn't forget. They were pretending they were great shinobi in a small game they created, and as they played outside bundled in their coats, Rei stopped. His eyes had widened, and he fell to the ground, blood pooling around him.
He was still breathing though, so Shiro, desperate for his friend to live, started screaming. He called for his mom, he called for his mom's boyfriend, he called for everyone he could. Finally, his mother ran out in no coat, a worried expression on her visage. "Shiro-chan!?" She had yelled, but stopped in her tracks when she saw Rei. She quickly ran to his bloody friend, and looked at him. She saw a kunai sticking in the back of his chest, oh so close to his heart. She figured that if she didn't perform medical jutsu on him soon, he'd die of internal bleeding. A bad way to bleed to death. And so, although she wasn't a shinobi anymore, she performed medical jutsu on him. She stopped the internal bleeding, and took him home, telling her son to go inside before he caught a cold.
Before he did, though, he grabbed that kunai and brought it inside with him. He wouldn't get caught with a bloody kunai until his mother came home, so what was the harm in looking at it? He removed his coat and sat in the kitchen, inspecting it. Although he was a seven year old, he liked looking at things. It was fun just to observe, he thought. It was then that he noticed something. There was a thin strand of wire attached to it. Well, that was odd. Why would wire be attached to the kunai? Perhaps a means of tactical fighting? Well, whatever. That was interesting. Then he decided he wanted to keep it, so he ran into his room and hid it. Where? Who knew? And then as soon as he came out, his mother had come in. Well, that was the end of that. She didn't bring it up at all.
The next day, his friends distanced themselves a bit. Rei had not shown up that day, and they all knew he left the Academy with Shiro. So now what? Were they thinking that he did something to him? He didn't. He wouldn't hurt his friend. People stopped talking to him, and they tried hard not to interact with him because they believed he was a "friend-killer". Rei never returned, and it turned out that the medical jutsu did not work. A lot of people attended his funeral, and they were all sad. Especially Shiro, since the two were practically best friends. The bloodshed ended for a while, so he was able to fully concentrate on the Academy. it was about three years later when he was ten years old that a child in the academy was murdered. She was someone that used to be close to Shiro, not as close as Rei, but close. Again, the other children believed it was him, and ignored him even further. Two years later, he was promoted to Genin, top of his class.
Shiro was placed onto a team with a girl, and a guy. They were twins named Kitou Satsuki and Kureno. They ignored him as well. And then, after waiting a great deal of time, they were introduced to their sensei. His name was Katsuragi Ichigo, and he wasn't the nicest of people. In fact, he was known for being harsh on his students. And indeed he was. Although he was brutal, it helped his students to flourish. They became stronger, but it was when they entered the Chuunin Exams when Shiro was sixteen that bloodshed visited Shiro again. It was while they were hunting down each other for scrolls, that Satsuki was killed. All the blame shifted to Shiro, but that was to be expected. What wasn't expected, was that Kureno attacked him. Reluctantly, he fought back, but was knocked unconscious for just a few minutes. When he awoke, Kureno was gone, and he had both scrolls. Desperate to get out of there, he quickly chased after him.
Shiro arrived at the building only a few moments after Kureno had, and they both got credit for the scrolls, much to Kureno's annoyance. A few weeks after that, they were promoted to Chuunin, and they never saw each other again. After his promotion, he got news of his mother being pregnant. It was with his little sister, who was to be named Orihime. And to be expected, it was Riku's child. It was at that time, because of Orihime, the two got married. So, Kurokawa Setsuna was no Satou Setsuna. To be honest, Shiro was a little disappointed. How come his parents had never gotten married when she was pregnant with him? Hmm... it could have been because his mother was only seventeen at the time and his father twenty-six. But whatever, he'd deal with it. It wasn't that big a deal anyways.
Shiro unconsciously began to distance himself from his younger sister; his mother realized this, but never said anything. His stepfather, Riku, hadn't noticed at all. He usually had his hands full with Orihime. Speaking of which, he was going to take her to visit his family. He asked -- no, he pleaded both Setsuna and Shiro if they wanted to come, but Shiro quickly refused. And the most surprising answer was that his mother said she'd stay. He had frowned and said, "That's too bad.". It sounded as if there was something coming, and he knew about it. So, packing his bags, he and Orihime left for Hoshigakure no Sato. After escaping with a few years of simplicity and no death and bloodshed, it returned.
His mother was making dinner, and Shiro was messing around with the wired kunai he kept from all those years ago when his mother came into the room and quickly shut the door behind her. He looked up with a questioning look, "Hahaoya?" he had said. His mother pressed a single finger to her lips signaling for him to be quiet. She quickly made her way across the room, grabbed his hand and pulled him off the bed, and they both sat next to the bed, away from view if someone were to walk in the door. "What's going on?" His mother shushed him quietly. "We're going to be killed." She told him, a lot of concern and worry on her face. Shiro himself couldn't believe it. "Hoshi shinobi are out there now, tearing around the place." Hoshi... Hoshigakure! Didn't Riku say he was from there?
There was a pound on the door; his mother jumped and he thrust the wired kunai into his pocket. They crouched and slid under the bed, masking their own chakra presence. Their dog, Pacchiri, perked his head up and wandered over to the door. It flew open, the dog backing up slightly, as two Hoshigakure no Sato shinobi came in. In an instant, they killed the dog, she fell over with a thud and a small pool of blood pooled out around her. Shiro's eyes widened. This reminded him of Rei. "Shiro-chan, look at me." She said it so loud, it made him look to her with the most horrified look. She frowned, and he noticed that in the small proximity of under that bed, she was forming handseals. "Wha--" At that moment, she pressed her hand down on the back of his neck. "Forget the bad thigns." Extreme pain trembled throughout his skull. It felt like something was being locked up.
He fell unconscious for a moment but immediately awoke when his mother screamed, "Run, Shiro-chan!!". Who was she? How did she know his name? He didn't know if he should run or not, but he decided he should when he saw blood splatter onto the ground. He scrambled out from under the bed, and ran to the window. Quickly thrusting his elbow into the glass, blood and clear solids fell to the ground, shattered. He escaped through the window. He kept running, until night took over the sky. He was cold, and he had glass in his elbow and blood coming out. He pulled the bits of glass out, ripped of his sleeve, and wrapped it around his elbow. It stung. He knew he'd have to get medical attention soon.
And so, into the night he walked, tiredness occasionally pricking at his consciousness. He wanted to get away from Yukigakure no Sato, because his mother's dead corpse was there. But, only another hour into walking, he fell to the ground, asleep. It was cold due to the snow, but when he awoke, he was warm. Shiro blinked away his grogginess and looked around. He was in a bed, and an elderly man walked in, a bowl of something edible, he guessed, in his hands. "So you're awake." He said, with a smile. His voice was creaky. Shiro just nodded. "Be glad we found you. You're body was cold and that bandage you had there came off. You could'a bled all your blood out." Exaggeration. That had to be an exaggeration. "So, you got a name? Where's your parents?" He told the man his name, and paused. Who were his parents? His brow furrowed, and he looked down, trying to remember. "Ah, hit your noggin a bit too hard, eh? Well, not a problem, Kurokawa Shiro. We'll take care of you." We? Oh, he must have had a wife.
Shiro remained in that house for the next year, before leaving. He still didn't know who his family were, or anything else about himself. After a week after leaving, he sat down and tried to get himself to remember. A few flicker of memories passed by his eyes, and then pain erupted through his cranium. It felt as if his brain was being torn apart! But those memories... it showed him on missions with other shinobi. So... he was a shinobi? Well, he must have been one if he remembered that. And so, he had a goal now. He was going to teach himself jutsu using his element. He only knew he had that element now because he was from Yukigakure no Sato.
He began to train himself vigorously in the element of Hyouton, or ice. It came surprisingly easy though. After about half a year of training, it had paid off. And eventually, he signed a contract with a hawk. It was to be his summoning. After perfecting his jutsu, he realized something. What did he have to live for? Who did he have to live for? What the hell was he even doing here if he had nothing or no one to live for? And then he thought of the family he didn't know. Were they alive? Were they dead? Had he liked them? Had they liked him? Who knew? And all these answerless questions caused him to become despaired with what little he knew. And that was when the look of despair in his eyes were born.
Half a year later, while he was training for just something to do to pass the time, he was approached my a man. This was Zetsumei, of the Seken no Zaigou. He had said that he had some talent, but that could have been a lie for all he knew. And then he brought up the look of despair in his eyes. "Why do you look like all hope as been lost?" Shiro looked thoughtful for a moment. "I can't remember." He didn't Zetsumei's expression to see if he was laughing, or being sympathetic. He didn't know what his expression was, but he very much appreciated the leader's next sentence. "Then why don't you join Seken no Zaigou? You'll have something to live for." He eagerly accepted, and soon, the kanji for despair was tattooed down his throat. He was known as despair, and now his nonchalant facade had been born.[/ul]
